Highlights

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Bhutan — a land of pristine valleys, living traditions, and spiritual serenity. From the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery to the tranquil Punakha Valley, this 7-day journey reveals the soul of the Kingdom of Happiness through breathtaking landscapes, ancient fortresses, and warm Bhutanese hospitality.

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by our guide and driver before transferring to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. The drive takes about one hour and offers beautiful views of the Paro Valley

Before leaving Paro, visit the National Museum (Ta Dzong), which houses an impressive collection of Bhutanese art and artifacts, and the magnificent Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong), an architectural masterpiece overlooking the valley.

En route to Thimphu, make a brief stop at the ancient iron bridge near Tachog Lhakhang, a charming 15th-century temple built by the famous bridge builder Thangtong Gyalpo.

In the evening, visit Tashichho Dzong, an impressive fortress that serves as the seat of the Royal Government and houses the King’s throne room. Overnight in Thimphu.

Today, we begin our sightseeing in Thimphu, starting with the magnificent Buddha Dordenma, the world’s largest sitting Buddha statue, overlooking the entire Thimphu Valley. Continue to the Memorial Chorten (Stupa), a spiritual landmark built in honor of the Third King of Bhutan.

Next, visit the Takin Sanctuary, home to Bhutan’s unique national animal, the Takin, followed by a stop at the serene Zilukha Nunnery, where nuns dedicate their days to prayer and meditation.

We’ll also explore the Traditional Art School (Zorig Chusum Institute) to witness students mastering Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts, and visit the handicraft market, Zangdopelri Temple, and local bazaars for authentic Bhutanese crafts and souvenirs. End the day with a leisurely stroll at Clock Tower Square, Thimphu’s lively city center — and notably, the country’s only area without traffic lights! Overnight in Thimphu.

The day begins with renewed energy after a hearty breakfast. Depart for Punakha, driving across the spectacular Dochula Pass (approximately 2 hours). The journey offers breathtaking views as the road winds through lush forests and rolling mountains, revealing ever-changing landscapes along the way.

The highlight of the drive is the stop at Dochula Pass, one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks. Here, the 108 chortens (stupas) and a beautifully designed temple create an atmosphere of peace and spiritual serenity. On a clear day, you can also enjoy panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas.

Afterward, continue your drive to Punakha. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax for the evening. Overnight in Punakha.

Today, we explore the stunning Phobjikha Valley, often referred to as the Swiss Valley of Bhutan for its breathtaking alpine scenery. After breakfast, we drive to Gangtey, a journey of about two hours. En route, we stop to visit the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong (Fortress), strategically perched above the river junction.

Upon arrival in Gangtey, visit the beautiful Gangtey Monastery, an important center for one of the oldest sects of Buddhism practiced in Bhutan. Later, take a gentle walk through the peaceful valley and visit the Nature Information Centre to learn more about the region’s ecology and wildlife.

One of the valley’s main highlights is the endangered Black-Necked Crane, which migrates to Phobjikha from late October to March, a true delight for nature lovers and photographers.

In the afternoon, we drive back to Punakha, descending once again into the sub-tropical valley. En route, stop by the Wangdue township to explore the area and its impressive fortress.

In the evening, enjoy a pleasant walk through a small village to visit Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Fertility Temple, dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kunley.
Overnight in Punakha.

In the morning, visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, majestically located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. This fortress is one of Bhutan’s most stunning architectural masterpieces and holds great historical and spiritual significance.

If you wish, enjoy a scenic 40-minute walk (each way) to the Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten, a splendid temple built to bring peace and harmony to the kingdom, offering breathtaking views of the Punakha Valley.

On the return journey to Thimphu, take some time below the Dochula Pass to explore the Royal Botanical Park and its beautiful surroundings, a haven for birdlife and diverse flora. After descending into Thimphu, continue the short drive onward to Paro.

Upon arrival, visit the Dungtse Lhakhang (Temple), explore the local market, and enjoy a leisurely stroll around the charming Paro township. Overnight in Paro.

After breakfast, drive for about an hour to Paro and begin your hike to the legendary Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched dramatically at an altitude of 3,120 meters (10,200 ft). Visible from afar, this iconic monastery clings to a sheer granite cliff about 1,000 feet above the valley floor — one of the most awe-inspiring and sacred sites in all of Bhutan.

The hike is steep in parts but truly rewarding, offering panoramic views of the valley and the monastery itself. For those who prefer, a pony ride can be arranged for the uphill section up to the first viewpoint and cafeteria, though the descent must be made on foot. Even if you don’t reach the monastery, the experience up to the viewpoint is exceptionally beautiful and worth the effort.

After descending, return to Paro and enjoy some free time for a relaxing stroll around the town or browsing local shops. Overnight in Paro.

After breakfast, transfer to Paro airport in time for your departure flight.
